How To Achieve Your Goals.

Ha ๐Ÿ˜ goals.

Those beautiful promises that I make to myself and end up breaking. Every new year comes with new goals for me to achieve but I fail to reach those goals. One of my goals was to become a published author of two novels before I turn nineteen.

I’m a few weeks from the big 1-9 and I am so far away from my goals. How can I meet and achieve my goals? ๐Ÿคท I mean, the time is already up. I should just quit right? I don’t believe quitting is the way out. It would just leave me with regrets. So I’m a few weeks from my goal deadline and I’m not even half way to the completion of my goal yet.

It’s so easy to give up because I have several reason. I could say that it is because I:

  • am not as good as others.
  • don’t have the right equipment.
  • don’t have the right connections
  • am an often broke student (This won’t last forever. Amen)
  • lack dedication.

Well, did you see what I just did. I just wrote down all the things that I feel is holding me back. When you have a problem like mine, the last thing you should do is to quit. This is the easiet way out but it is also the wrong decision.

Let me explain. It is one of my dreams to see my book in print. I haven’t finished any of the books that I’m writing currently and I’m no where near finishing. All the problems I have listed contibute to this facotr. So I wonder why I shouldn’t just stop writing and concentrate on graduating with a good grade?

Here’s why?

Writing is my talent, hobby and passion.

It is my way of dealing with the stress that I face.

Those don’t exactly seem like good reasons to keep writing especially when it can sometines feel more like a chore than a hobby. Especailly when I consider that there are thousand of other writer’s out there that write much better than I do

I keep going because there are people counting on me. I have dreams that I want to achieve and writing is tied to these dreams. What I’m trying to say is that, if you really want to achieve that goal, you need to work hard at it. Don’t let anything stop you. I’m not trying to sound like a chessy inspirational quote here.

To achieve your goal you need to have some:

Courage:

It takes real courage to keep at something even after you have failed severally. It takes courage to hold on to your dreams. It takes courage to take the risk necessary to achieve that goal. Be ready to face opposition. It will come. But don’t let it get in your way. Focus on your goals.

Plan:

Without a plan, you will fail. I’m not kidding. Some peole like to wing it as they go but a plan keeps you focused because it tells you where you are going to and where you are comning from. It’s okay if it isn’t a detailed plan. A simple guide of what you want to achieve and how you want to achieve it is the best way to go.

Determination:

You have to really want what you want. It is the only way you can go after it and keep on going even when things seem tough. Determined people are the winners who refuse to quit. ย Simply put, quitters can nerver win and winners don’t quit. seriously, if you don’t believe me, ย watch a race and tell me when a quitter wins. ๐Ÿ˜

Consistency:

Most poeple start out well when they set out a goal but you know why they fail? They’re not consistent. I read recently that only 2% of people who set long term goals actually achieve them. I can tell you the reason. When they fail or make a mistake, they are unable to get past it. It’s just like watering ย a plant. If you are suppoused to water a plant at 4 O’clock everyday and you do that dilligently for the first two days, and you fail on the third day, does that mean that you should stop watering the plant? No! But people don’t take the same mindset when they have a goal in mind. ย Even if you fail or stop following the plan, it is consistency-constantly returning to your goals- that will get you to the final achievement, Don’t quit. Return to your goal. it’s waiting.

Evaluation:

This is a very important aspect of all of achieving goals. From time to time, you need to compare your progress with your plan so that you know if you are on track and if you need to make any changes to the plan. Make specific changes where necessary.

So about my problems that I listed out. This is for those who have a goal that they have started working on. It could also work with those who are starting out. I wrote out those things that act as obstacles to my goals. The next thing I’ll do is try to find a solution to them. This is my evaluation. So here is my solution to them.

My problems and their solutions:

  1. I am not as good as other writers: I am not the best writer in the world. But I’m definitely better than I’ve ever been because I improve everytime that I write. There are also thousands of resources available to me as a writer that could help me get better.
  2. I don’t have the right equipment: Saint Francis of Assisi once said, “Do the necessary, then the possible and then you can do the impossible.” That isn’t the exact quote but the key point is that I can achieve my goals by making do with what I have. After all, I don’t live next to a wishing well.
  3. I don’t have the right connections: These things take time and if I had them now it wouldn’t be of much use me because I don’t have a finished manuscript. So, I’ll focus on finishing my manuscript and. Networking can come later.
  4. I am an often broke student (This won’t last forever. Amen): I should learn to save and stop impulsive spending. Most of the basic writing equipments are not that expensive and I could always get a job.
  5. I lack dedication: GET UP YOU LAZY BONES OF MINE. Without dedication, I’ll just give up but I know that I owe it to myself and my readers to finish the books that I start.

So now that I have the solutions to my problems, I will work on my plan so that it can accommodate the changes. Remember, you can achieve your goal if you keep at it.
